7] Likes Replace Karma: We have replaced the Karma system with a "Like" system where messages on many (but NOT all) boards have a "Like" button (near the bottom of the post (above the signature, if any). Please only like messages that you consider really good. Liking every message as some people do on Facebook is a waste of system resources. This is an experiment. If the system does not work out well, it will be removed. As someone who does this very thing on other forums, I feel this will be gone pretty fast. Not because of me, per-se, but because someone who's new could very well not obey this rule and get into some trouble with the higher ups.

1] Messages from Old Board: We believe almost all messages and threads from the old board made it to the new board. The few that are missing are from the last 24-48 hours on the old board. The backup made just before trying to upgrade the old vBulletin software failed, so we had to use the previous backup to recreate the board on this new software. Some BBCode are slightly different between the two boards which means that sometimes "raw bbcodes" will appear in messages originally posted to the old board.
2] Avatars and Attachments from Old Board: Unfortunately, neither uploaded avatars nor attachments uploaded with messages successfully moved to this new board. The attachments are simply gone -- nothing can be done to recover them. You can restore you avatar, however. There are hundreds of "standard" avatars to select from on this board (including all the standard ones that were on the old board). If you used a standard avatar you can just reselect it in your profile settings. If you uploaded one of your own, you can just upload it again (also in your profile settings). To get to your profile settings, hover over on your avatar (which is one auto-generated by the board at the moment) in top menubar, hover over the "Modify Profile..." item in the profile menu, the click on the "Forum Profile" item in the submenu that pops up. You can also just click on your avatar in the top menu and go to the profile area and use the menus there. Note that this top menu "floats" -- that is it is always available no matter how far you scroll down a page (assuming you have a modern browser).
3] Visitor Messages: Visitor messages (in your profile area) did not move either as they are not a normal feature of SMF. We'd added a mod with something similar, however. You can enable a "Wall" in your profile area to allow visitor messages on your profile (see the Wall Settings in your profile area). This works something like the status area on Facebook -- both you and others can post there. You have some control over who can and you can remove wall posts you do not like, etc. This only appears if you turn it on.
4] Suggested "Layout" Options: We suggest you turn on the following in the Look and Layout section of your Profile (by checking the box next to these items and pressing the "Change Profile" button: * Return to topics after posting by default. * Hide messages posted by members on my ignore list. Others can be set as you wish (as can these two, for that matter).
5] Social Groups: None of the Social Groups from the old board made the transfer. We've added a social group mod that allows social groups with many of the features found on the old vBulletin board. You are welcome to start a new social group.
6] Wiki: The wiki did not make the transfer -- there is nothing like it for SMF. This means no wiki pages for social groups. All the material that was in the public part of wiki made the transfer -- as messages on a hidden board. They are currently hidden from view while we try to figure out how to make it available.
8] Blogs and Other SMF Board Features: This board has many new/different features -- many of which are currently turned off. New features will be activated slowly. One of the new features that currently IS active is the Blogs feature. Members can start their own blog on the forum. Posts to the blog need to follow the same rules as posts to the message board.

The new SMF replacement board is coming along fine (so far -- knocking on wood).
It is ready for (staff) testing. With luck it will be open for members to test soon. You can see the maintenance mode message at https:/ecauldron.com/forum. NOTE: if you have TC's forum bookmarked, be sure to update that bookmark to this new address. If your bookmark has " www.ecauldron.com" instead of just "ecauldron.com" you will likely get a "referrer error" when you try to log on when the board reopens. (because ecauldron.com and www.ecauldron.com are technically not the same domain and the new more secure access methods need it to be the same domain.

Oh sure... Get mad at me you goddamn ****. It's not my fault that we have a huge pile of asbestos in the garden. It's not my fault that you left me to deal with all of the legal crap. It's not my fault that legal procedures take a year at least. It's not my fault that you are now living in your parents attic until we can sell the place, where you, by the way, get all your laundry done, your supper cooked, your bed made and your room cleaned and you don't have to pay a goddamn dime for any of it. It's not my fault either I have too much on my goddamn plate to be on top of things, because I dó have to do my own laundry, cook my own supper, make my own bed and clean the whole goddamn house while having a 38 hour workweek, school on Fridays, three dogs, two horses and a bigg ass garden to keep up too. And it sure as hell ain't my fault that you aren 't doing a goddamn thing to speed things up either. So you either stop your goddamn whining or take something off my hands for fucks sake.... I am so done with this.
There, I said it.
Sorry. I needed that.

Fingers (and sundry appendages) crossed. I'll be glad to get back to SMF, and the kinks will get ironed out eventually.
PROGRESS: The SMF board is up (but in maintenance mode) at the "old board's" address: https:/ecauldron.com/forum -- the maintenance mode message gives the address to this backup board.

Hey everyone, I just have a question of curiosity. I live in the D.C. area , and I was out driving last night. at about 1930 EST I got hit with a wall of energy. Did anyone else feel this or was it localized to me?
Nothing last night in NE Ohio.

Did anyone else feel this or was it localized to me? It felt almost like a systemic electric jolt followed by extreme relaxation almost stupor like. Had issues focusing on any of my normal defenses. It kind of felt like a ley line connection on roids, but I don't recall there being any running through the DC area. VOID

The new SMF replacement board is coming along fine (so far -- knocking on wood). It will have almost all the old messages from the defunct vBulletin board -- only missing some from the last 24-48 hours before it died. User accounts will still be there (although you will have to try to log in a couple of times to get it to convert your password -- JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LOGIN PAGE.)
Avatars are MIA. You will have to reselect, reupload, whatever your avatar. All attachments from messages disappeared in the big bit bucket in the sky. Oh well. All social groups are gone. There is a different social groups feature on the new board, but there was no way to important data from the old social groups. All visitor messages (in profiles) are gone as SMF does not have this feature. A mod providing something like it has been added, but again, there's no way to transfer old messages.
There are some new features. More about them in a future post. Still no ETA, but assuming no unexpected serious problems earlier rather than later in the next week.

Lyric: "Randall, honey? Can you go pick up some groceries? We're out of a couple things." Randall is hunched over a laptop, typing feverishly. He is dripping with sweat and has not slept in 72 hours. His hands are shaking. His eye twitches. When he speaks, his voice trembles with the weight of madness."Not right now Lyric. My people need me." <3 you Randall.
