I tried to update the forum software this morning. It was a disaster. I have no idea how long it will take to sort through its issues. I was updating VB in preparation for moving to the new server (with https) and it blew up. I restored the backup of VB and its database made just before I started the upgrade. It has a weird db error. I tried a backup a made a few days ago. It came back with a another (but different) db error. I decided after spending an hour trying to figure out exactly what the db error was and getting nowhere that my time might be better spent working on the SMF test board I made a few days ago before I discovered that VB had finally written a version of VB4 that would run with more current versions of PHP and deciding to try an update.
So when (if? ) the board comes back up, will it be SMF or vBulletin? Or is that matter still up in the air, Looney Tunes style?

There are very few problems which can't be solved with a suitable application of high explosives.

So when (if? ) the board comes back up, will it be SMF or vBulletin? Or is that matter still up in the air, Looney Tunes style? Barring a good series of miracles, it will be SMF. Either a live conversion of our old VB board (as of 2-3 days ago) or a empty SMF board with the old messages in another read-only SMF board. The latter will only happen if the converted SMF board develops the same type of problems we had a year or so ago when we tried to convert to SMF the first time.

Can't we go to a Phpbb forum? I really like that style. Just asking. I have no clue what it entails. I will sacrifice a goat if I have to. Well. A ram. I have four that need to be done away with. Is that enough power generated? Edit: Oh bloody hell why is that picture so freaking big...

But it's three weeks until the next full moon! Or will the new moon suffice? [As you can tell, I have no clue about such things!]

I'm not a fan pf Phpbb. In my experience, it's harder to maintain and generally much harder to block spammers from.

Agreed on the last. While I normally support the "open source" model, I think that in this case it makes it easier for the bad guys to pick it apart to bypass your filters. When I ran a phpBB board I used to get on average forty spam registrations A DAY which made it past the "CAPTCHA". I eventually decided, "Why bother?"

Fixed it for you. The preview is wonky, though, so it's not got the right proportions because I couldn't actually see what I was doing. XD
